It has been a short three months since we released the first alpha of Tienda, and in that time some really exciting things have happened. One of them--perhaps the one about which I'm most excited--is the growth of an international community around Tienda.
It's no secret; this has been a goal of ours from the very beginning. Almost immediately after releasing Tienda we started thinking about all the different international events we'd attend in order to present Tienda.
- We scheduled a February presentation to the Toronto Joomla User Group.
- In March we finally made it to Toronto after a series of flight cancellations, but the presentation went really well.
- In April we trekked out to Stockholm to make three presentations for JoomlaDay Sweden. While there, Henrik and Marco (two other attendees) started coding two new Tienda payment plugins (one for Payson, the other for Pagseguro)
- In the last week of April/early May, we flew to the CMSExpo in Chicago for a week, making two presentations.
The efforts are already paying off
We've already had Tienda translations submitted to us via our Support Center and/or committed directly to the SVN in:
- Dutch
- German
- French
- Swedish
- and a few more that we've only been notified of
Additionally (and this one I'm really happy about), we've had the first international Tienda community site spring up. It is Dutch and the URL is http://www.tienda-ecommerce.nl/ Take a look!
I'm hoping this will encourage other communities to form, perhaps even using their country-specific version ot tienda-ecommerce.
Future Plans
This is by no means the end of our travels -- it's just the beginning. Here's a quick snapshot of what we currently have planned.
- In late May, we'll be in Germany for the J and Beyond conference, making one presentation and leading a development workshop.
- This fall, we plan on a "Tienda Tour" to several European JUGs and JDays, including one confirmed September trip to Italy.
We'd really like to do more, so if you have an event planned for sometime this year, let us know and we'll see if we can attend!
Cheers!
