Restrict Front-End Publishing

For Joomla! 1.5.x users, you will need to install our free CONTENT SUBMIT component to restrict front-end publishing by section/category.

For Joomla! 1.0.x users, no additional components are necessary.

Joomla! 1.0.x

You will note that the URL for submitting a new article to a section in Joomla! 1.0.x looks something like this:

  • index.php?option=com_content&sectionid=x&task=new

If you've never seen a link like this before, then you haven't created it in your Menu Manager yet.  This tells Joomla! to create a publishing form for the section that corresponds with sectionid 'x'

As a result, you need to tell JUGA to restrict the 'sectionid' variable and that 'task' variable for the option 'com_content'.  In all likelihood, an entry in JUGA>>Variables already exists for 'task', so you just need to browse to JUGA>>Variables and create one for  'sectionid'.  Set Auto-Add = YES, Force Integer =YES.

After creating the variable, confirm that you have the JUGA System Plugin enabled, then return to your front-end and click the link for submitting a new article.

Then, return to JUGA>>Site Items.   Search for 'sectionid' in the filter box.  You will see the new Site Item corresponding to the link you just clicked.  Assign it to a JUGA Group and then assign the correct users to that same JUGA Group to grant them publishing access for that section.

Joomla! 1.5.x

Install our free CONTENT SUBMIT component.

Create a Menu Item link to the CONTENT SUBMIT component via your Menu Manager.  Select your preferred layout (section or category). While creating or editing the menu item, select the section/category you would like to associate with the submission form.  Save the new Menu Item and publish it.

You will note that the URL for submitting a new article to a section/category while using our CONTENT SUBMIT component looks something like this:

  • index.php?option=com_contentsubmit&layout=bysection&id=x
  • index.php?option=com_contentsubmit&layout=bycategory&id=x

If you've never seen a link like this before, then you haven't createdit in your Menu Manager yet.
This tells Joomla! to create a publishingform for the section/category that corresponds with id 'x'

As a result, you need to tell JUGA to restrict the 'layout'variable and the 'id' variable for the option 'com_contentsubmit'.  For both variables, set Auto-Add = YES.  For the 'id' variable only, set Force Integer =YES.

After creating the variable, confirm that you have the JUGA SystemPlugin enabled, then return to your front-end and click the link forsubmitting a new article.

Then, return to JUGA>>Site Items.   Search for 'bysection' or 'bycategory' inthe filter box.  You will see the new Site Item corresponding to thelink you just clicked.  Assign it to a JUGA Group and then assign thecorrect users to that same JUGA Group to grant them publishing accessfor that section/category.
